The Key To Living Life On Your Own Terms.
The key to being able to reliably live life on your own terms, with comfort and ease, is to escape "The System": You have to get off "The Grid"* to Gain Radical Independence Directly (GRID) for yourself! (See * below for my definition; what I mean by get off "The Grid" and live off "The Grid".)
This simply means, you have to be living your life in a way that is free of having any dependence on any of the things you need for a safe, comfortable life that could affect your welfare and safety but over which things you typically, conventionally, have no control. Things such as your Income, Shelter, Food and Electricity: You have to be in control of these things to protect your welfare and safeguard your well-being!

But, to have that kind of control, this means that you have to escape "The System"! You have to be living off "The Grid"*! In particular, you have to get out from depending on the 9-5 Jobs Market for your source of Income. But, how are you going to do that? Do you know how to do that?

The best solution, by far, to the challenge of how to quit the 9-5 - how to make money outside of "The System" so as to quit depending on the 9-5 for your income - is to find a way to go from being a frustrated, unfulfilled, employee in a typically time-demanding, vulnerable job to being a liberated, self-directed, self-employed, 1099 freelancer on the way to ultimately becoming a successful online business owner. This is probably the best way to minimize risk while aiming towards maximizing rewards and freedom as the ultimate goals. This is covered in detail below.
Note: * By "Get Off-The-Grid" and "Living Off The Grid", I mean that you are living comfortably in a situation that is completely free of any dependence on "The System" for your source of Income, Shelter, Food and Power wherever you may actually be living. That means getting to be living in a way that is free, in particular, of depending on the consistent and safe availability any of the following for the ongoing safety and security of your own welfare and well-being:

- 3Super-Markets And Fast-Food Outlets For Your Food
- 4The National Power Grid For Your Electricity
Note: By "Conventional Housing For Your Shelter", I mean your home: The key here is that your home must be located on property that is free of HOA, CRCs or any other restrictions, such as zoning or State laws, that place limits on what you can do where you live!
But, of all these items, the single most important key to freedom is #1: Freedom from the 9-5 Jobs Market, as an employee, for your source of Income!
Why is that?
Because, as outlined in the previous Blog Post, I have shown you how Money, the availability of money, whether through income, capital or savings, is essential if you are to enjoy any sustainable form of freedom to live life on your own terms, with comfort and ease, in living off "The Grid"! But note, as an employee, you have no control over your own source of Income! Therein lies a problem!

1: The Classic 9-5 Jobs Market.
The typical way to make money for most people is the conventional Jobs Market.
While I would never recommend relying upon the the 9-5 Jobs Market for any lasting, dependable, reliable, source of income today, nonetheless, if you happen to currently be working in a really well-paying job, take advantage of that income source while you can, for as long as you can. Reduce debt and increase savings!
Make As Much Money As You Can While You Still Can
Plan ahead for your next step in getting into living off the grid while you still have an income source. Do not underestimate how much the transition from living on the grid to living off the grid can cost because it's a radical change in lifestyle - for the good, however!
First thing to do is to cut all unnecessary expenses, such as credit card or auto-loan debts. You must cut out anything that is not necessary so that you can maximize your savings.
Do everything you can to cut your current living expenses and really build up your savings.
Ideally, set out to get at least $100K or the equivalent of 2 years annual living expenses in reserve. You want to aim to have enough to invest in your project. You also need to have enough to fall back on if necessary while you create your homestead.
Remember that is is often way too easy to over estimate what you can accomplish with what you have available. It is equally too easy to under estimate what it will actually take to accomplish your objectives. Overall, it is way too easy to be in error in terms of both time and money needed to complete. Plan carefully, cautiously!

2: Become An Online Freelancer - Work Remotely.
Make money - on or off the grid - by becoming a Freelancer.
If you have certain specialist graphics, software or designer skills that can be used in working remotely from home, you may be able to develop a substantial career and income source as a Freelancer.
You will need to have a high-speed, reliable, access to the Internet. You will also need a dependable workhorse computer and related software. But, you can get these things relatively cheaply today. And, you will need to have a dependable source of power. Even laptops need to be recharged!

The best way to promote your services is probably by using agencies such as Upwork (previously known as eLance), Fiverr or even Freelancer amongst many other options. These also handle non-productive but important admin functions for you such as billing and payment - big advantage for you.
A broad range of specialist software can now be accessed by subscription instead of having to buy it. Software As A Service (SAAS) providers also ensure you have the latest version installed.
For example, Microsoft offers their full range of Office software by subscription. Adobe offers an incredible array of creative software also by very inexpensive subscription. You can be up and running quite quickly if you already know how to use these tools. If you need tutorial help, lynda.com - now owned by LinkedIn - has a very broad range of excellent tutorial programs available through subscription.
3: Sell What You Can Grow And Produce.

Depending on what your long-term vision is for your new off the grid lifestyle, if it includes growing a market garden or livestock, then, in due course, you will be able to sell what you produce.
Some folks are making well over $50K / year from vegetable sales using relatively small plots of land from even as small as 1/2 an acre. It does take work and careful planning but, if you are passionate about gardening, there are many creative ways to help produce the produce results you want and produce a great work/life balance in producing it. Puns intended! There is a real science to doing this well but its not hard to learn and there are many resources to help.
Vegetables, Livestock, Bees - Things To Grow For Sale
Others are making very good income from growing livestock in a specialty way. This includes such livestock as pastured broiler chickens, pastured beef cattle and even rabbits and pigs.
Joel Salatin claimed to have been able to "net as much as $25,000 in 6 months from just 20 acres" around 20 years ago. He wrote about it in a book entitled "Pastured Poultry Profit$". Since then, he has continued to develop and is now making much more than that on his farm in Virginia. A 2018 revised version is also available.
That example does not mean you would do as well; there are no guarantees to results, but this does show possibilities that may be worth exploring.

Make money by providing a service.
Certain trade and craftsman type skills are almost always in demand in almost every location.
For example, if you are a skilled carpenter, you most likely could find opportunities for making money by advertising your availability for jobs throughout your area.
Likewise if you have plumbing, electrical or even handy-person skills and there is a good sized urban area close by, you could become in demand and make enough money to meet your needs as you build a client base over time.
The DIY Workshop
Are you good in doing Woodwork Projects? If you are skilled in woodworking and have a good eye for design, then you may well be able to make a good living out of making furniture - custom or standard pieces such as tables and chairs.
Advertise in Angie's List and Home Advisor for clients. Do not think that you can simply create a Facebook Page or Instagram Account and suddenly have customers streaming to your door; it does not work like that!
5: Saved Best For Last - Create Your Own Online Business.
